Chelsea deny Wright-Phillips bid

Peter Kenyon insists he did not receive a bid for Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester City Football Club.
It had been claimed by City boss Stuart Pearce that the Eastlands club had tried to loan back the player they sold to Chelsea for £21million in the summer, yet the Londoners have rejected this.
"There have been no discussions either internally or any approaches externally," chief executive Kenyon told Sky Sports. "It is one the speculations that goes around Chelsea these days."
Since moving to Stamford Bridge Wright-Phillips has rarely been given a look-in with regard a starting place, which is in stark contrast to the days when he was the first name on the City team sheet.

Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure is attracting interest from a number of Europe's top clubs
Toure is currently in Egypt playing for the Ivory Coast at the African Nations Cup alongside his brother, Arsenal's Kolo, and Chelsea's Didier Drogba.
Drogba has been quoted as saying that he has recommended Toure to Jose Mourinho, commenting: "He is the new Vieira.
"He even has the same body shape as him, as well as a similar game."
The 22-year-old meanwhile has expressed an interest in teaming up with his brother at Highbury, saying: "I am flattered by the interest that Chelsea have shown, but it would be pretty hard to beat playing alongside your brother."
Meanwhile in Italy, Juventus are now thought to be monitoring developments with a view to a summer move for the Olympiakos man.

Cech nets new Chelsea deal
Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper Petr Cech has signed a two-year contract extension that commits him to the English Premier League champions until 2010.
"I am very pleased. When I joined Chelsea I just wanted to get in the team and win some trophies," the 23-year-old Czech said on the club's official website.
"I managed that last season and have been rewarded with a new contract already. Now I want to win some more trophies."
Cech's rival for the Chelsea keeper's jersey, Italian Carlo Cudicini, signed a one-year contract extension last month which ties him to the Premier League leaders until 2009.
Cech joined Chelsea from French club Rennes for STG7.0 million ($A16.47) in June 2004 and his displays were key to Chelsea winning their first English league title in 50 years last season.
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said of Cech: "He had a fantastic season in his first year and established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world."
"It was always our intention to keep him for longer than his initial contract as he has a key role to play in the long-term development and success of the team."
